Ayurveda is one of the earliest medical sciences that advocates positive concept of health through a blend of physical, mental, social, moral and spiritual welfare.

Ayurveda is a natural and Universal therapy. The people are now being attracted towards Ayurvedic treatment to avoid side effects of chemical and synthetic compounds.

According to this healing tradition, every living and non-living being in the universe is a combination of five basic internal elements (panch maha bhoothas) Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. These elements combine in pairs to form three forces called tridosha – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. While the air and space and elements combine to form the Vata principle, the fire elements constitutes the Pitta Principle. The earth and water elements combine to form the Kapha principle. It is said that these three basic principles govern all biological, physiological and psycho-pathological functions of body, mind and consciousness. They act as basic constituents and protective barriers of the body. Any imbalance of the body matrix gives rise to ill health or sickness.

In Ayurveda diagnosis involves examination of pulse, urine, feces, tongue, eyes, skin and ear, as well as tactile and auditory functions and a general physical examination. The patient’s internal physiological characteristics and mental disposition are also taken into consideration. Apart from these, affected tissues and humours (body fluids), patient’s resistance and vitality, gravity of condition, digestion of details of personal, social and environmental situation are also noted. Treatments in Ayurveda range from purification therapies such as Panchkarma and internal treatments such as herbal medicines. In addition, the practitioner may recommend dietary and lifestyle changes and therapies like Panchkarma and Rasayana. The therapy begins with chanting of a traditional prayer for the patient’s well being. A special herbal powder may be applied on forehead followed by traditional Indian yogic chants that are played according to the time of the day.
